STADT NAVAL Project Approved by the Norwegian Defense Material Agency
The Norwegian Defense Material Agency (NDMA) has now approved the research project, jointly done with technical support from NDMA - on Lean Propulsion® technology in relation to the Navy’s upcoming fleet renewal programs, which are exploring advanced variations of diesel-electric propulsion. NDMA has been a central part in carrying out measurements and validations of the STADT-technology.
The Norwegian Navy and Coast Guard are now planning 28 new vessels, where this technology is highly relevant.
STADT NAVAL is a leading Norwegian company in this field, with six generations of uniquely STADT’s self-developed AC power drive technologies for ships.
As part of the project, several critical parameters were tested and validated, including:
- Electromagnetic interference from AC sinusoidal operation
- Underwater radiated noise
- Magnetic properties
- Use of lightweight aluminum unscreened power cables for the drives
- Drive efficiency
- Acoustic noise, measured from both sinusoidal AC operation and its PWM counterpart
- Shock resilience of STADT AC propulsion drives for combatant ships
The report concludes that this Norwegian technology offers significant benefits for future naval vessels, underlining its potential in advanced ship electrification, IEP.
This week, STADT NAVAL was present in Bergen, meeting with the NDMA and the Navy to present the results of the project.
