STADT Naval has been selected to deliver its patented Lean Propulsion® System for the Polish Navy’s new submarine rescue vessel “Ratownik”, currently under construction at PGZ Stocznia Wojenna.

Designed for complex and demanding naval operations, 96-meter long “Ratownik” will conduct submarine rescue missions, advanced diving operations, and seabed infrastructure protection in the Baltic Sea. These missions require precise dynamic positioning (DP), high manoeuvrability, and exceptionally low acoustic signatures to ensure safe and effective operations in sensitive underwater environments.

Diesel-electric propulsion optimised for naval rescue operations

Under the contract, STADT will supply a complete 11,000 kWe electric drive for the propulsion system based on its Lean Propulsion® technology and main switchboard 690 Volt. The ship will have 5 propellers, all in CP execution, driven by STADT AC Induction motors, highly efficient and reliable, made without the use of rear earth minerals to control the propellers. The solution is engineered to deliver completely noise-free propeller operation, a critical requirement for submarine rescue operations and other acoustically sensitive naval missions.

Unlike others DC-based energy solutions on the market, STADT’s Lean Propulsion® System is built on pure AC main power distribution. This system architecture provides guaranteed noise-free performance, eliminates electromagnetic interference (EMI), and delivers the lowest underwater radiated noise (URN), tested and verified by the Norwegian Navy. In addition, the solution offers exceptionally high reliability based on its well-proven technology, minimal energy losses of only 0.1 % in the electric drives and substantially reduced system complexity.

Proven technology and growing presence in Poland

“This will be STADT’s fourth naval ship project in Poland incorporating full diesel-electric energy and propulsion solutions, thereby confirming STADT NAVAL’s established international market position, and with the Baltic countries in particular. The project also contributes to further growth and new employment opportunities in Gjerdsvika, and it is a fantastic start of a long-term relation between STADT GROUP, PGZ Stocznia Wojenna and Poland.” Says Hallvard L. The power will be generated by 4 diesel-generators – three MW each.

This installed electric power will drive the main CP propellers, retractable CP thruster, bow CP thrusters.

With the “Ratownik” programme, the newbuild will become the 18th DP-classed vessel equipped with STADT’s Lean Propulsion® technology, further strengthening the company’s track record in advanced electrification of naval and offshore vessels.
