STADT Awarded Contract for New DP-Class Subsea Vessel – Project Now Underway

STADT is pleased to announce the start of a new offshore vessel project, where the company has been selected to deliver its patented STADT Lean Propulsion® system. The vessel will be designed for advanced subsea operations on the seabed, requiring high precision and dynamic positioning (DP class).

The newbuild will become the 18th DP-class vessel to be equipped with STADT’s Lean Propulsion® technology.

With an overall length of approximately 100 meters, the vessel will be constructed at a European shipyard for a European shipowner. Delivery is planned in about two years.

Under the contract, STADT will supply a complete diesel-electric propulsion system based on its patented Lean Propulsion® solution. This technology ensures completely noise-free propeller operation and provides significant operational advantages.

Unlike competitors’ DC-based energy solutions, STADT Lean Propulsion® is built on pure AC main power distribution. This architecture offers:

  • Lower energy losses

  • Substantially reduced system complexity

  • Exceptionally high reliability

  • Guaranteed noise-free performance, unattainable with DC-based systems

These benefits derive from the fact that all motors and generators onboard are AC-based by design.

“This contract strengthens STADT’s solid position in the international market for DP-operated vessels and contributes to further growth and new employment opportunities in Gjerdsvika,” says Hallvard Slettevoll.
